Kansas Author Debbie Gassert Invites the Community to a Meet-the-Author event for her book Mighty Neighborly Lamar, Colorado — Kansas author Debbie Gassert is excited to announce the release of her new book, Mighty Neighborly, and warmly invites the community to join her for a book signing on Monday, June 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lamar Public Library, 102 E Parmenter St, Lamar, Colorado. In 2023, Gassert began researching a decades-old homicide that shook rural Kansas. After nearly two years of in-depth investigation, she published her true crime book, Mighty Neighborly, released on March 6, 2026. The book examines the 1980s murder of a disabled farmer in Washington County, Kansas, and the controversial conviction of a local chiropractor—secured without a witness, weapon, or recovered body. The individual convicted in the case, J. T. Garner, was born in Scott County, Kansas, and lived in Lamar, Colorado, before later moving to Washington County, Kansas, where the homicide occurred. His local roots deepen the case’s historical relevance for the region and help explain why its impact extended across multiple Kansas communities and into Colorado and Nebraska. Gassert will be available throughout the event to chat with attendees and sign books. She will have copies of Mighty Neighborly available for purchase at the event.
