28 VACATION LEAVE ELIGIBILITY Introductory Period: Leave begins to accrue during the Introductory Period. New Employees are eligible to use accrued leave after completing 90 days of employment. VACATION USE AND SCHEDULING Any employee desiring to use Vacation Leave must be scheduled and approved by the employee's supervisor before being taken. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to determine if the employee's requested Vacation Leave can be accommodated. While supervisors are expected to give consideration of the employee's need for time off, business and operational needs will be a key consideration in determining whether or not a specific leave request is approved. Approval of an employee's leave request is entirely at the discretion of the employee's supervisor. Hourly Employees will use Vacation Leave in hourly or daily increments. Salaried Employees will use Vacation Leave in half- or full-day increments. For Vacation Leave requests of one (1) week or more, employees will submit a written request to their supervisor as far in advance as possible, but not less than two (2) weeks in advance. For Vacation Leave requests of less than one (1) week, employees will submit a request to their supervisor at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance PAY FOR VACATION LEAVE The number of hours paid for an employee's day of Vacation Leave will be the same number of hours the employee would have worked on that day had he, or she, not taken Vacation Leave. Vacation Leave hours will be paid for at the employee's current regular hourly rate of pay. VACATION PAY AT TERMINATION Upon termination, eligible employees will be paid for any unused vacation leave earned during the current year, including hours carried over from the previous year (up to the 200-hour limit). Any employees that prior to December 31, 2018, have obtained and hold banked vacation time are permitted to be paid out for that remaining banked time on the date of termination of employment. Vacation leave may not be used to extend the date of termination beyond the last date actually worked.
