27 iii. Leave the envelope or package and contents on the desk or table where opened or discovered and notify the HPA and the Lamar Police Department immediately. e. Evacuate the area or building involved or threatened until the “all clear” has been given by the HPA. 7-06 Natural Disasters This plan will address disasters that have predictability, moderate frequency, no controllability, and rapid onset with minimal forewarning – such as tornadoes, electrical storms, and flash floods. A. Notification. Two sources of notification are E-911 Dispatch Center and employees listening to radios in work areas or vehicles. Either source (or both) should contact the HPA. B. Highest Position of Authority. The HPA will advise Floor Captains to inform employees of the disaster, instruct them to secure their work areas, collect personal belongings, and proceed to a pre-determined gathering area. C. Doors and Windows. Doors and windows should be closed and lights turned off in all areas except the gathering area. D. Types of disaster. a. Tornadoes – Floor Captains should direct employees and visitors to interior hallways on the lowest level of the building. Stay as far away as possible from glass doors, partitions, windows, and outside walls. Should a tornado strike the building, crouch on the floor and cover your head. If you are out-of-doors with no shelter available, lie flat in a ditch or other depression in the land and cover your head. b. Earthquakes – Such disasters are not common to this area; however, shocks and tremors have swayed buildings and broken windows. Seek cover (for example: under a desk to protect yourself from flying glass and falling debris. c. Electrical Storms - If you are in a building, stay away from windows. Do not use the telephone except during an emergency situation. If you are out-of-doors, stay in your vehicle; but if you are on a tractor or similar piece of equipment, get off and get away from it. Do not stand under trees, telephone poles, wire fences, or metal pipes. If caught in an open area or field, go to the lowest possible elevation. 7-07 Field Crews
