6 2-05 Safety Committee Safety Committee membership shall be composed of employees from designated departments and divisions representative of the different classes and working conditions in the City employee base. A current listing of the Safety Committee members with the departments/divisions represented is listed in the Purpose and Operation of the Safety Committee memorandum, Page C contained in this Policy. Committee members will be selected for their interest and expertise regarding departmental safety standards and will be appointed by the Department Director. The Committee’s responsibilities, will include, but not be limited to: A. Meeting once a month or when deemed necessary. B. Developing and conducting in-service safety awareness programs. C. Providing factual background information and recommending action to Department Directors, the City Administrator or the Utilities Superintendent in cases of flagrant and continuous disregard for safety rules. D. Reporting activities of the Committee to the City Administrator, the Utilities Superintendent and Department Directors. E. Conducting inspections of City and Light and Power operations and reporting hazards to employees or public safety to the appropriate Department Directors for response. F. Reporting to the Department Director, the City Administrator or the Utilities Superintendent any unsafe situation that requires immediate action because it presents an imminent threat to employees or public safety. G. Review, investigate and recommend action in response to the Accident Investigation Reports. H. Committee organization: A Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Secretary shall conduct meetings, prepare agendas, provide for minutes of each meeting, and officially represent the Safety Committee. III. SAFETY PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The provisions of the previous sections fix the authority, responsibility, and organization of the City’s safety program. The Safety Committee shall devise, augment, and maintain a comprehensive safety program. The objectives of the program shall include, but not be limited to: A. Training supervisors to give priority attention to preventing accidents and promoting safety.
